Welcome to Vocal Music at JHS 194!

Congratulations on deciding to become a member of the music program!  You’ve made a wise choice and I will tell you why.  As 8th grade school students, I know this is an important time in your academic career.  Studies show that being involved with music raises math, foreign language, and reading scores.  Music also helps a person develop self-esteem, self-expression, creativity, imagination, and self-discipline.  You will meet and work with many different students in your school and hopefully make lots of new friends! Being involved in music will benefit you in so many different ways.

This is my 20th year teaching!  I have my B.A. in Music and Vocal Performance from the University of Connecticut and my MSED in Music Education and my certification in Special Education from Queens College.  I am passionate about what I do and have been singing and performing since childhood.   I played softball for 9 years, am a Mom of three and absolutely love to travel, try new foods and meet interesting people along the way!

Some of the musical opportunities that are available to you at 194 are:

Curricular
FAPA - Vocal Music (8th grade)

Extra-Curricular
Vocal Club (All grades) before school
Drama Club/ Broadway Jr. (All grades) before and after school

JHS 194 Vocal Music students have been selected to sing at the Queens Borough Arts Festival and Area All State during the 2024-25 school year!

Here is what one 8th grade Vocal Music student had to say…

This was my very first year working with vocal music and my experience was amazing. For the first time since pre-pandemic, chorus has returned to 194! As the year comes to a close, we thank all of you.

Returning after so many years, chorus class was meant to be a place for support, community, and connection between our singers.

Every person should be accepted and allowed to be their true selves. Chorus has become a welcome place for many students, despite our differences. Some of us struggle with music, more than others, and that’s okay!

Personally, I grew so much throughout this school year, working on my vocal range, dynamics, breath control, and so much more. It was truly the most wonderful experience to work with all of my peers and learn and grow with them.
