Mrs. Kane, ELA Teacher
About Me
I have had the pleasure of teaching ELA to every grade, within our building, since I joined the JHS 194 family in September 2014. I love helping students grow as readers, writers, and thinkers—and hopefully have a little fun along the way, too! One of my favorite parts of the job is seeing those “Aha moments” when something clicks. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, going to the beach, swimming, and spending time with loved ones. I’m excited to get to know all of you and make this a great year together!
About our ELA Classroom
Throughout the school year, students are engaging in activities that challenge them to become stronger readers, writers, communicators, listeners and thinkers. We will have many opportunities to engage in thoughtful discussion, in both a small group and large group setting, to increase communication skills. Also, the best way to enhance our writing is through practice and expanding one's vocabulary. It is through reading that a larger vocabulary is achieved as we discover new words each time we read. In addition to any independent reading books they are enjoying at home, students are expected to complete Weekly i-Ready "My Path" lessons; they are assigned to address the individualized needs of each student. It is essential that students complete those lessons with their best effort to prove that their "reading muscles" are getting stronger! Whether we’re diving into great literature or working through a piece of writing, I’m here to support and challenge you.
To stay up-to-date, please review the Parent Letters that I have posted here which provide an overview of the texts/topics we will be covering from September to November.
I look forward to creating relationships with all students and their families during the 2025-2026 academic year!
