marking period 1 update
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the end of Marking Period 1 on Thursday, we wanted to take a moment to update you on what your children are currently learning in 6th Grade Mathematics. We are currently in Unit 2, which introduces the concept of ratios to students. Students will represent ratios using double number lines, tables, and tape diagrams and use ratio reasoning to solve problems.
Sub-Unit 1: Ratios (Lessons 1–6 + Practice Day + Quiz)
- Use tables, double number lines, and ratios per `1` to solve problems with equivalent ratios.
- Describe ratio relationships between two quantities using appropriate notation and mathematically precise language.
- Analyze strategies for solving problems involving equivalent ratios, including using tables and double number lines.
Sub-Unit 2: Common Factors and Multiples (Lessons 7–9)
- Determine the least common multiple and greatest common factor of two numbers.
- Interpret least common multiples and greatest common factors in mathematical and real-world situations.
Sub-Unit 3: Solving Problems With Ratios (Lessons 10–15 + Practice Day)
- Compare ratios in context using a variety of strategies.
- Solve real-world and mathematical problems using double number lines and tables of equivalent ratios.
- Describe strategies for comparing ratios in context.
- Interpret different representations of a ratio relationship to make sense of a situation in context.
Unit Vocabulary:
- common factor
- double number line
- equivalent ratio
- greatest common factor (GCF)
- least common multiple (LCM)
- per
- quantity
- ratio
- table
