What does speech-language therapy look like at the middle school level?

Middle school speech–language therapy supports students as academic and social expectations grow more complex. Our work focuses on helping students understand what they read, express their ideas clearly, and communicate confidently with peers and adults. Through small‑group sessions, students practice skills such as organizing their thoughts for writing, using grade‑level vocabulary, answering higher‑order thinking questions, and applying strategies like annotating, highlighting, and using context clues to strengthen comprehension.

Students also build social communication skills, including perspective‑taking, conversational turn‑taking, and interpreting nonverbal cues. These abilities help them navigate friendships, participate in class discussions, and advocate for themselves when they need support.

My goal is to help every student become a more independent, effective communicator, both in the classroom and in everyday life.
